2. Do many people speak English, in Monterrey?
It is not easy to find people off the street who speak good English.
The younger population is much better at English than older people.
3. Can I get good medical attention in Monterrey?
Yes, Monterrey has good doctors and medical centers. Although you
won’t always find a doctor who speaks your language, most
of them speak English.
4. We find that in Monterrey that they eat
too late for me – can we go out to lunch/dinner any earlier?
There are several restaurants that open since really early in the
morning, there you can have lunch before 14.00 hours or have dinner
before 21.00 hours (usually the time people in Monterrey lunch or
dinner). Most restaurants that do not offer breakfast open at 12.00
or 13.00 hours.
5. Can I rent a property with only my passport
and before I get my work/residence permits?
Yes.
6. Can I open a bank account with only my
passport?
You need your passport as well as your immigration papers.
7. Can I drink the tap water?
In Monterrey you can with no problem at all subject to the fact
that many people take a few days to adapt to a new environment anywhere.
8. Should I bring any particular electrical
appliances with me?
All those used in a normal domestic environment are readily available,
although there may be differences in design. Check electrical supply
if you are bringing anything sensitive as voltage and HZ may be
different from your point of origin (110v in Monterrey).
9. Can my spouse find work?
Don’t count on it. This is a complex subject depending on
qualifications, nationality and many other factors.
